i want to add that this question is for average water needing plants, i'm not talking a about extremes such as rosemary and succulents that need little water, or impatiens the common and the new guinea ones that need a lot o water.

I'd like to Bump this post, I am terrible (as most newbies) at knowing how much is to much or to little...how often versus how much? I'm afraid that wilty plants means they're not getting enough water but I don't want to over water.

I read about watering a foot deep but how do you know how deep you're watering?
