PVC Pipe Size vs. Valve Size

I am new to the forum... I have a sprinkler system utilizing a well with a 1HP pump operating a single multi-zone valve (6 zones). The PVC line coming out of the pump is 1-1/4" going over to the valve body with six 1-1/4" lines coming out of the valve feeding each zone. I have recently installed a Hunter Pro-C controller with a pump start relay to give me better overall control over my watering options especially in light of the drought we are currently experiencing. My question is this... I noticed that all the valves available are either 1" or 1-1/2". When converting from my current muti-zone valve to single individual valves... should I reduce the current 1-1/4" pipe down to the 1" valve size and then back to the 1-1/4" size of the feeders or come out of the pump with the existing 1-1/4", going up to the 1-1/2" valve size and reduce back down to the 1-1/4" feeder lines? The way my system is laid out... I can't afford to loose any of the current pressure.

Thanks,

Keith in Florida.
