My thoughts regarding the rain-barrel/soaker

I posted what I thought in regard to 'equalizing' flow using a 'manifold' system.

I also posted what I thought about toro (crap).

Here is my opinion about 'soaking'

In my 20 years of horticultural experience, 'soaking' is generally:

1. a waste of water. You're trying to water plants, not dirt.

2. a great way to grow a lot of weeds.

3. a great way to leech your soil of nutrients.

A 'poly' manifold system is going to give you not only MUCH more consistent watering, but will save water, and won't offer much to the weeds. also, sir, Its going to save you money. That 'soaker' hose toro makes, isn't exactly cheap. (more like 'clogger' hose) Unless you're running distilled water through it, I can't emphasize my distaste for soaker hoses enough. ESPECIALLY, since you're using rain water off your roof, I can almost guarantee you, its going to clog. the spaghetti's could also clog, I suppose, but, you could also rig up a 3/4" hose fitting to your manifold to 'purge' your system at street-pressure.
