My whole entire system is made of hoses. I made a header out of one 50' hose and throughout the header I have soaker hoses running to each row. Wherever I have a row, there is a "T", a shut off valve, and then the soaker with a male end and a cap. I bought some wire hangers at Dollar General and made my own earth staples to hold them in place.

Wow, I didn't see this thread before posting my other message, but I've got a similar setup and am wondering -- could you explain how you cap the soaker hoses?

as far as a cheap solution to terminating a soaker hose that doesnt have a fitting on the end just bare hose is to double it back on itself for about 4 inches and cinch 2 zip ties on it... since the pressure is low this works fine

Great idea! I ended up doing basically that, but cinching them with the hose clamps I had already bought. Zip ties would be cheaper though.

Can they be patched? Black tape doesn't do it?

micky, you can either cut it and put a male end on one side and a female on the other, or you can cut it and put a small piece of pipe in it and secure with hose clamps. i had a couple places where my wife and brother in law decided to hoe the hose instead of the weed and i tried tape first as well. then i cut the hose and slid a 3 inch piece of conduit in and secured it with teh clamps. works great.

That said, how about using Gorilla Glue and clamp and it shut. It seems suitable to me the way everybody explains it with the zip ties correct
