Lawn Irrigation System

Hello - IÂm in the process of planning a lawn irrigation system (leaning towards Rainbird). As a result, I have a lot of questions.

Statistics:

- System will be supplied by a well

- Pressure tank has a 40/60 switch

- Â¾ inch supplies yard faucets and future system

- Not sure of HP of well pump

- When yard faucet is wide-open the pressure tank maintains 50 PSI and pumps ~10 GPM

- Plan on installing a filter to catch sediment

- About 1 acre yard with zone runs of up to 400 feet

Questions:

1. With the Â¾" supply line, above PSI and capacity, and installation of filter, do I have adequate pressure and volume to effectively run a system?

2. Not planning on digging below frost line, so will need to blow system out. Is there a quick release system that can be installed at the valves, so I can simply attach my air compressor to? Looking to make as easy as possible.

3. What am I missing and are there any other ideas I should consider?

Hi Koda,

What type of Rainbird irrigation heads do you want to use for your system?
1. What is the head's flow rated in GPM @ 50 psi?
2. What is the dimensions of each zone you want to irrigate?
3. What is the total area you are irrigating? Yard area minus house area.
4. Is this a DIY project? Why not get a quote from some landscape contractors.

koda99 - You have almost exactly described my own project. I'm also leaning toward Rainbird. I'm planning to T into the main 1 inch PVC line between the well and the tank, with a shut-off valve to supply the lawn system, and keep everything at 1 inch. I have not figured out what I'm doing about a backflow preventer. I think it is required here by code, but I'm not real happy about what I read about pressure drop through the unit. I was not planning to install a filter, but after reading your notes, I may just do that. My plan is to run PVC as far as the valves, then pull poly throughout the yard. I'll keep watching for your updates. Good luck. Phil

Koda, go big. 1 inch. What kind of square feet? Pag43061 has it right, tee into the main.
I did similar with a 1 inch curb stop style valve. I have a post that I started in 2006.
