Configuring Soaker Hose System

Hi there, new to the forum and have some questionsÂ.

Currently IÂm watering my garden with sprinklers and soaker hoses. These soaker hoses need to be replaced, I must have them over ten years and theyÂve been really helpful, but they have punctures, are stiff and I need a better layout. I see these days one can buy bulk hose with couplers and fittings and customize the configuration. My question is, would pipe insulation be a good material for transitions where water isnÂt needed? This would be where it crosses walkways, goes from one shallow raised bed to the next etc. I donÂt know anything about a pipe diameter versus a hose diameter, or even the material(s) pipe insulation is made of (any worse than the chemicals used in the hose manufacturing?) If I can close off segments, it would make the watering more efficient. Would it leak through the slit in the pipe insulation?

Evie, they make the poly pipe in the same size as the bulk soaker hose along with the fittings. To turn certain areas off you can get an inline shut off valve. I would go with the .700 as that is the most common size in the irrigation world. I can give you a link if you would like to email me.

Thank you for responding to my post. The areas I would like to control would be in line, so I was just wondering if I could effectively supress the flow of water by preventing it from escaping the hose. For instance, I have 3 raised beds with walkways between them. That two feet of walkway between beds gets watered, which is a waste. Right now I'm using old pool railing as diverters, so the water goes into the bed.

You use .700 soaker hose, .700 polypipe and .700 fittings. You put the polypipe in the areas that you don't want water. Polypipe is solid flexable tubing used inbetween the soakerhose. It is the same size as the soakerhose, therefore fits in the fittings that the soakerhose fits in.
