Solenoid, I Think..

Hey all,

When woke up this morning, one of my sprinkler zones was still running. The only way I could turn it off was by shutting off the water valve near the pump. The last time this happened it was a bad Solenoid and the sprinkler guy charged over $100 for it.

I did some research and saw how easy it is to replace, so will do it myself. The qestion I have is, which solenoid do you buy? I have one, still in the box from Orbit that I found in my garage. The screw in (nipple if you will) portion is longer than others I've seen on the internet. Does it matter?

Also, how do I know which is bad? I have 3 of them and want to replace the right one :)

I would first check if the valve can be started and shut-off manually from the controller. If any don't function from the controller, reconnect the solenoid's wires in the controller again as well as check the wires at auto valve. Test from the controller again. If that doesn't do it, then turn the solenoid on manually at the valve by twisting the solenoid counterclockwise slightly until the zone comes on. Do not completely unscrew the solenoid just enough for the water to come on. Then turn the solenoid clockwise just enough to stop the watering. Let us know what the results of your efforts were. What is the brand of the valve that the bad solenoid came from? GL Aloha
