Depending on how much you paid him and if he was licensed. Call him and see what he says. If he wasn't licensed don't have high expectation. If he was then you can threaten the him with the BBB. Good luck.

You should be able to cut the area. It depends on the effected area. Is the cut on funny pipe, pipe leading from the main line to the spring head, or is it on the main line itself? If it is on the main line, you should be able to cut out about .5-1 inch of hose and put in a barb connector that you can purchase from your local hardware sore. If it is on the funny pipe you're in luck. You can just undo the funny pipe from the 't' in the main line and undo it from the sprinkler head and replace that section of funnny pipe (usually around 3 feet). Good luck!
