What to plant around sprinkler heads?

Hi-

Maybe this is a question for another forum. If so, I'll try another as well, perhaps groundcovers, or any other ideas of forums to check?

I'm having a sprinkler system installed this week. I no longer have a lawn - my entire yard is planted out, from low plants in the foreground to higher plants in the back. I understand that the pop-up things will rise to a foot. I'm assuming that the base of the head will be at ground level. Do any of you have an idea about what I can plant around the heads that will hold the soil so it doesn't wash onto the sidewalk and also that will remain green all year so it's not bare dirt around the sprinkler heads? And that won't block those foot-long pop-ups?

I'm thinking of perhaps thyme. I will have to keep cutting that back so it doesn't grow over the head or onto the sidewalk. I don't like that part, but at least it's low-growing. Also I have a corner house and the front is in full sun, the side in shade. So thyme wouldn't work on the shady side.

I'd love to get some ideas!
