Question: Spacing emitters of 12' drip-tape around tomatoes

To be economical I ordered a full 6000ft roll of drip-tape with 12" b/w emitters to cover all my crops and had a question about spacing them for my tomatoes which I plant 24" apart.

Option A: Place one emitter directly adjacent to the stem

Option B: Place the tomatoe between two emitters

It'll either be under black plastic or a thick layer of straw, haven't found a good local source of black plastic and don't want to delay planting much longer.

Here is my $0.02. either way works because the roots of the tomatoe plant will be shallow and grow about 2 feet on either side of the plant. The important issue is that the water plume in the soil spread to reach all the roots. This plume is a function of the time of irrigation and the soil type. Check the reach of the plume before you plant by probing or digging. Tomatoes need mulch to protect the shallow roots. JMHO. Aloha
