Melted irrigation tubing?

I have 1/2" and 1/4" irrigation tubing on the side of the house. It is very hot there especially since the siding is white and reflects the sun.

One day last summer there was a leak because the 1/4" tubing melted and there was a 2 mm hole in it.

The 1/2" tubing shows signs of stress from the heat as well.

I am trying to keep these irrigation tubes covered with mulch but eventually with the heat the tubes bend, lifting the mulch and cats or other squirrels help moving the mulch further, uncovering the tubes a bit.

Any advice? Is there some shiny silver paint I can apply to the tubes, etc?

Would using hold down stakes help?

Yeah, I did that too, but it is so hot in this side of the house (facing west, white siding) :-(

I read somewhere about silver paint that reflects light, has anyone heard about that?

Here is my $0.02. I would put the section in 1/2" white pvc pipe slightly buried with mulch on top. That give insulation from the mulch and air inside pvc. Also the critters won't get at it looking for water. Screen or lightly cap the pvc pipe ends with duct tape. Then you done. Aloha

Oh, you mean "double insulate" by running the poly hose inside white PVC pipe?

I can see it could work and PVC pipe is dirt cheap. Only trouble is, how do I do that with an existing section of poly hose? I would need to redo the poly hose section then.

Cut it and reconnect with an inline male/male connecter or clamped coupling. Same as repairing a break. Aloha
