Home Depot guy hates Rainbird valves likes Hunter better

The Sprinkler Dept. guy at Home Depot who has been there as long as I can remember and seems knowledgeable of brands not even sold there, claims that Rainbird valves like the DV-100 are not the quality they used to be. He said that they are ok for city water, but well water with any grit would quickly destroy the diaphragms, that are now cheaply made compared to older rainbird valves. He also said that rainbird is continuously discontinuing their valves making it difficult to obtain parts, forcing you to upgrade to newer valves. He says that Hunter valves, which they do not sell there, are high quality and far superior to Rainbird, even though they sell Rainbird there. I get the feeling that he used to work in the field but had to settle for Home Depot because of age and the Florida heat. Any thoughts?
