Are Orbit Valves any good?

The guy at home depot who has been there for the 10 years I've been in town says that the Orbit Valves they sell are better than the Rainbird Valves they sell. Someone on this site recommended Rainbird DV100 valves which I will look into Monday. I did notice that the replacement diaphragms HD sells for their Rainbird CP100 valves also say they fit the Supply house DV100 valves. If thats the case then the HD and Supply House Rainbird Valves have the same internal parts. Which brings me back to the recommended less expensive Orbit valves. Does anyone know if they're any good? Thanks for any advise.

I can't really compare brands or models, but I've had Orbit valves in my self-installed system for around 12 years. Bought everything at HD at the time as the local supply houses had offensive pricing. They've worked fine - very reliable. Last year I replaced all the diaphrams in the valves as they'd worn out from normal usage, plus I live in a freezing area. The model I have are a bit of a pain to replace the diaphrams on as you have to remove like 8 screws, but with an electric screwdriver it's not a big ordeal. I also replaced a couple solenoids over the years.

Thanks Steve. I live in Fla. so they take less of a beating, especially in a valve box out of the sun. The ones I'm replacing are 1983 valves with orig. diaphragms and all but one work but they are starting too act up and are also 3/4 on 1" pipe. I figure I'll upgrade to 1" for hopefully more flow. I'll try the supply house's and hopefully they'll be reasonable. If not I'll do 1 at a time as they act up. Thanks again Steve for your reply.

I'm not really into advertising for anyone, but I've ordered from www.sprinklerwarehouse.com many times and have found their prices (including shipping) and service to be very good.

No! Orbit parts have been nothing but a headache ever since I replaced my whole system with their parts. The valves are unreliable - constantly have to be fiddled with to turn on. Guy at Home Depot (where I originally purchased). The timer (orbit also) has recently begun to act possessed - system still waters when in "off" position - does not respond to manual program - has to be unplugged and reset to respond. Bad!
