check valves

Someone installed 2 check valves on 2" irrigation pvc.

1 hp pump is about thirty feet from well. Pump sits

higher than well. 1 check valve is vertical near pump.

The other is horizontal near well point. Wouldn't one

suffice near pump? 6 zones.

What side of the pump is the nearest check valve to the pump? Pump intake side or pump outlet side. Aloha

They are both on suction (intake) side.
I would think having two of them is a little over kill.
One check valve (horizontal) is 2" pvc down by well, the vertical one is 1 1/2" brass just before pump.
Does pump work any harder? Maybe upon start up?
I figure the brass one would keep the water right there at the 1hp pump.
Any thoughts?

Unless some one corrects my guess, I would say it is your insurance that you have water in the pump. They do leak and cause priming problems with the pump. these system tend to have air leaks as well(pun). Aloha
