query with berkeley pump

specific problem with a berkeley pump

the motor runs. easy start. kawasaki 8hp. fires on first or second pull every time. the pump primes. protek #4 hand primer, three inch inlet, two inch outlet. if i remove the outlet the pump primes easy and water gushes forth. i feel likes moses striking a rock. when i put the outlet back on, the pump does not prime.

Is this a new pump or old? Was this installed by a contractor? Best to contact installer or manufacturer. GL Aloha

carbon dating puts us about eighteen years ago. getting info from berkeley is like pulling wisdom teeth from a bull elephant. i go through the phone book calling anyone who does irrigation, landscape or field, or who deals in farm equipment and repair of any kind. know what kind of answers i get?

Nope. Need more info on the pump. Is the 8 hp more 18 years old as well. Need more detail on your system and what the pump is used for or hooked up to. What is the source of water you are pulling from and what is the vertical distance to the source's water surface from the pump's center line? A plumbing contractor maybe of help in this situation.
