I am brand new to this, too. But I am using a 350 gallon tank, elevated only 3 feet or so, and got a steady drip for my nearby squash with one .5 gallon emitter on each. If I understand correctly, for gravity fed irrigation you should use the smaller 'per gallon' emitters.

There was only 60 gallons or so in the tank at the time and that was just a run-through, so now I am going to try the 1/4" soaker hoses in a spiral around the whole of each mound for better coverage. When done with this section I am going to set up irrigation for larger beds with green beans and black-eyed peas. I plan on using the 1/4" soaker hose for the row crops, unless someone here has a better suggestion?

Most drip irrigation needs pressure to work. If you wanted to use drippers, I would get an adjustable one. As for soaker hose, it needs at least 10 psi to work. There is a rain barrel soaker hose out there, designed to work with no pressure. I don't think the 1/4" soaker would work, although cheap enough, you could try it.

I have a 3 faucet manifold on my tank & have the 2nd section finished and used it to water the green beans with 1/4" soaker hose down each row and back again on the other side of the row. A couple of loops or spirals on the tomatoes and a circle around each okra and pepper plant. Worked fine! I even had 2 sections going at the same time for awhile.

That is great Connie. I didn't think there would be enough pressure for the 1/4" soaker hose.
