are you trying to duplicate drip tubing? they make tubing with emitters built in (12", 18" and 24"spacing)? It can be buried. what pressurizes the water in the system you've described?

I am not trying to duplicate drip, but rather a technique known as "deep pipe" which is reported to be more effective on 70-80% less water by watering the root zone directly and not the surface where evaporative losses and weed water theft are overwhelming issues.

The actual technique employs single verticle tubes next to each plant, filled by pouring or drip tubing, and draining into the zoot zone directly. I am considering modifying the concept for rows not individual plants.

The reason it works with single plants, is because the flow is metered per shaft. What you are describing is more like the old flood systems used on corn fields. The problem lies with getting the same amount of water out of each hole. It just isn't going to happen.

If this is something you want to try, maybe protect a netafim pressure regulated drip line inside a perforated pipe, surrounded by sand.
