Battery timer and valves

Hi,

For the last several years I've had battery powered timers run my little vineyard irrigation system. There were 2 Orbit timers. Everything worked fine, but the timers only last a year or two before they start failing. I attribute it to the heat. I'm already pulling the equipment in the fall, things just don't seem to work properly when I reinstall the next spring.

This year, I need 4 timers. I'm looking for something that will last longer, and maybe segregate the timer from the valves.

I saw a irrigation video that suggested using a ball-valve rather than diaphragm.

Any suggestions?

Ball valves are fine if you want a totally manual system. If the valves are in the same spot I would look at the Hunter battery operated systems, if they are separated I would try the rain bird easy rain battery operated controller.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have not had any luck finding battery powered ball valves. Based on what I'm seeing, the video was probably talking about solenoid actuated valves.

The wireless option seems interesting. Everything is within a 100' diameter circle.

Orbit does have warranties on all their products. If your timers are less than 6 years old, you should be able to get replacements at no extra cost.
