I am getting ready to plant 5 palm trees. I am thinking about installing 2 of the perforated drainage pipes near the root balls to assist in deep watering. Has anyone used these? And, when I install them, how much water/long do I water? Do I fill the pipe 1, 2, 3, etc. times? The pipes will be 18 inches long. Thank you! AL

I have used these perforated pipes but not for the purpose you are describing. I used them for aeration to the root zone and to determine if watering was reaching the entire root zone. Irrigation was done with regular drip method and a flashlight to look down the pipe to see any water. It was not used as a place to put the water. Way too inefficient and time consuming. You only need to check the pipe when setting up your irrigation system and then once in awhile after that. Once trees get established they won't need water unless you live in the desert. aloha
