Sprinkler heads above root zone

This weekend I replaced a number of 2 inch pop-ups with 4 inch ones because the 2 inch ones were obstructed by my lawn (which I mow at 3.5 inches). However, once I began this little project, I discovered that even removing all but one section of the existing risers, my new heads still protruded about an inch to 1.5 inches above the root zone.

So my question is...what are my options now? Is there an easy way to remedy this situation without digging up the lawn around the heads to try to lower the lines (if that's even possible)? That's a bit more of a project than I think I want to undertake. I really want to keep the 4 inch heads because I'm a big believer in mowing my lawn high, and the 2 inch heads just weren't cutting it (no pun intended).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
