Leaking recycled rubber soaker hose

I set out a brand new recycled rubber soaker hose and shortly after I turned it on it sprang a leak. How do I repair this without using one of those hose repair kits? I'm 73 years old. I need something easy.

Your suggestions will be appreciatted.

RE: Leaking recycled rubber soaker hose

You cannot repair it without a hose repair kit because tape will not stay for long in a flexing, watery condition, and neither will silicone nor epoxy. Therefore, cut out the leaky part of the hose, and use a hose repair kit.

What I did with old leaky hoses was drill holes every 3 inches to make it a soaker hose. I used the smallest drill bit I could find, about 1/16 inch. It worked very well and lasted longer than commercial soaker hoses left out in the weather.
