Is 18' spacing of emitters really sufficient?

I'm planning on installing some drip tape, and all I can find locally spaces the emitters 18" apart. I would prefer 12" spacing, as my gardening failures have ususally been due to insufficient watering.

BUT maybe I'm being overly cautious. The plants are hydrangeas and lily-of-the-nile (which I hope will spread). My soil is pretty good, not sandy at all, so do you think 18" will suffice?

Should not be a problem. Just keeps the water on longer and watch the wet plume in the soil. Make sure it reaches the entire root ball. Aloha
