I have a question about my irrigation system. I went to turn the system on by turning two round faucet type handles to the on position. These two handles are located on the main back flow device. I was able to get the heads working and the sprinklers up and going, but, when the heads are not watering the yard, the city water meter continues to spin. If I turn the two round faucet type handles off, the city water meter stops spinning. What could be the problem? Do I have a leak in the pipes?

The first thing to check is all the valve boxes to see if you have an open drain valve. These are typicly 1/2" valves. If all drain valves are closed than there is a leak in the main line and you should see running water shortly after turning the system main on.
