I've called a couple of local places one said, "no" and a the new pump will be $1000, another place says they've welded a couple this year already, and want $100 to try it with no guarantees. I found a 2hp self priming pump at Sears for $267. I'm a novice at this. What is the best solution?
Any advice?

Her is my $0.02 worth. If the pump is at the lake and not by the house. Let it spray. Does the pump produce the same pressure and flow as before? If so let it spray. Will the water return to the lake? If it does let it spray. Install $264 worth of plants (tomatoes) close to the pump to utilize the new special irrigation features of your old pump or use my favorite product ever "Duct Tape" to minimize the spray and plant the plants also.
