Water droplets burning leaves

You hear this a lot, that watering during the day can leave droplets that will act as magnifying lenses and burn the leaves. This really seems like an old wives tale. Does anyone know of any research that supports this?

RE: Water droplets burning leaves

I have never heard of this. I usually water at night to reduce evaporation, but sometimes I water during the day. I think the focal point of the droplet is all wrong to actually burn the leaf.
