varying nozzle flows within a zone

I have an irrigation system that uses Hunter rotary heads with 4 heads per zone off a well with a 6 GPM recharge rate. Presently all heads are rated at 1.6 GPM however, several zones have heads with varying angular coverage. For a given zone, I would like to consider increasing the nozzle flow rate on heads with wider angular coverage and decreasing the nozzle flow rate on heads with narrower angular coverage. The goal would be to keep the total flow rate for the zone unchanged. I have had no problems with well capacity thus far.

Would that be considered an acceptable and/or desired approach? Any concerns?

That approach is appropriate. All things being equal my corner (90 degree) heads have nozzles with half the GPM of the middle (180 degree) coverage. But, it's not an exact science as a 1.0 or 0.75 GPM nozzle may not spray very far or have a tendency to mist too much. Plus, you need to observe which areas get more sun than others, or consider how the head coverage overlaps in certain areas.
