Low irrigation pressure

I am trying to help an 84 year old gentleman with the irrigation system for his large garden. It has a Myers QP15 1 1/2 HP pump and could only run one sprinkler at a time. I cleaned the point with acid and now it will run 5 sprinkler heads but the pressure will never go above 10 PSI. Even if I shut off sprinklers one at a time untill there is no sprinklers running, the pressure never goes above 10 PSI. I took apart the pump and found that the impeller is 5 inches in diameter and the housing is 5 1/2 inches in diameter...leaving 1/4 inch clearance on each side of the impeller. Is that too large to get more than 10 PSI or do I ave other problems? There seems to be no air bubbles in the water so I don't think I have an air leak in the intake. Please help before I have to call an irrigation company...which he cannot afford. Thanks mmisch
