fredmertz, as far as I know, the max. height of the column of water in the supply pipe cannot be more than 37 feet under "perfect" conditions. The fact that the old pump functioned indicates that the water column was within this range. I would first try to make sure that the old pump did not burn up because the water table fell away. If it did, one remedy would be to install a submersible pump. EXPENSIVE!

ronalawn82, The original pump was a submersible in a 4" casing. It either froze up or shorted out. (keeps tripping the breaker and just hums) We are going to drop a weighted string down the well to determine the level of water. We just wanted info on the feasibility of going to a jet pump instead of replacing the submersible due to the cost. It would only be used for watering the lawn and garden, both of which are just on a city lot. Thanks for the help.

i use a jet pump. my well feeds off two well points 10 feet apart and down 35 feet. the jet pump sucks 9-10 gal per minute and works like a charm. never trusted submersibles.. but thats just me
