Old Well, Iron in Water

We have someone coming out to fix an old well next week so we can use it for irrigation. Our house is on county water so that is all the well will be used for. The only thing we are concerned about is that the neighbors said the previous owners switched to county water because of the high iron content in the well water. There is a filtering system under the house and we are wondering if it is necessary to hook the well up to it or if a high iron content in the water will matter to the plants. We are and will be growing a variety of plants including ornamentals, shrubs, trees, and edibles.

I was kind of looking forward to ripping out all the old filtering equipment so I would be interested in any other options that might be available for correcting the water that may be a more simple set-up and more local to the well.

Thanks!
