Problem with valve, wireing, or other?

Hello Everyone:

This is my first time posting here. I have a serious low pressure problem with 3 of the 7 stations in my sprinkler system. When turned on manually (at the valve), the pressure is excellent. However, when I run them from the timer, almost no water comes out. My gardener says that the the three "problem" valves need to be replaced. I have trouble accepting this theory for two reasons: 1)The valves are relatively new (only about 3 years old). The other four valves that are working fine are about 12 years old. 2)If the problem was in the valves, the pressure would be low regardless of whether they are turned on manually or not, right?

In addition, I have installed a brand new Orbit timer in hopes that it would fix the problem. Obviously, I didn't. Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem lies? I do not want to spend unnecessarily on the valves if I don't have to. They are brass valves, expensive, and hard to find. Pleas help. It is hot and my lawn is crispy. =)
