The only leaks on my system was where I ran out of clamps and thought I could 'skip that step'..... use the clamps.

It its poly pipe, yes use clamps, if its funny pipe as your title indicates, no you dont use clamps.

Speaking of funnypipe fittings, does anyone else just love the new "threaded" barbed fittings?

Orbit/Watermaster has had them out for years. Much better than the Toro ones in terms of getting onto the pipe.

Threaded fitting are the best. They can easily be replaced when they clog.

I use Orbit and also Rainbird. The Rainbird funny pipe I use has a 1/2" fitting for attaching to pvc and a 12" tube which sticks above grade and can be cut to length or simply bent over for accurate water placement.

The threaded fitting screws in the end of the tube. Slick a perminent.

Best tool in the box is my digital camera for recording underground installation detail.

Aren't funny pipe and poly pipe the same thing? Isn't funny pipe made of poly? If not, what is funny pipe?

Funny pipe is a trade name. It was developed by Toro years ago. Funny Pipe is poly but has a different ID/OD than regular poly. It too can be connected via barbed fittings but they are sized differently than regular poly fittings.
In my opinion, Funny Pipe sucks. The only thing funny about Funny Pipe is watching someone try to connect it together with a barbed fitting or better yet try to remove a barbed fitting from it!

It absolutely amazes me that the industry has so many sizes just off a hair one way or the other. Some marketing geek has decided they will force everyone to buy their product. Black, Blue, Green,-------- first job this spring is to reinstall a drip line 300' long on each side of our gate. Only have to worry about a "T" fitting in the middle of each line.

I will use threaded pressure regulating emmitters, the pipe will be attached to the bottom rail of a three rail fence, out of reach of the rabbets. Looks like an annual event forever not much choice.
