roseyp8255, the average yard is comparatively small to have significant differences in the level of the water table so the location of well point(s) is open to choice.
I would certainly give utilities locations a wide berth and avoid traffic and parking spots.

By comparatively small - do you mean 5 acres? My neighbor up the road only had to go down 50 feet before hitting water - she lives 1/2 mile up the road.....i am hoping the same holds true for me. My direct neighbor has a pond that is fed by a natural spring.....and NEVER went down last year during the drought.

ronalawn meant that normal "yards" are small as in under 1/4-1/2 acre. you have 5 acres so you have room to put it where you need it. if your neighbor's well was 50 ft to water, then your SHOULD be about teh same. but keep in mind that it could be 3x that deep as well. they cna use ground radar and such to find the most likely spots, but NOTHING is ever guaranteed.

That is what i wanted to know - about ground radar and stuff - the guy that came and gave me a quote told me there was no way to tell even where water SHOULD be. I am definitely gonna do some research and talk to other contractors.

I know of some people who have a "ground-wall penetrating radar" but i don't know that their particular machine would help - but i am gonna ask! :)
