Could be. Is this area greener than other areas? Are their pipelines running close by? Is this close to your neighbor's wall or fence. Is there a garden close by with a different water pattern than the rest of the yard. Water can move through the soil from some distance away. Is this a low spot in the yard? How deep is your area's water table? Do you have a neighbor that over-irrigates his garden or lawn? You have to fill us in on more information about what is happening in the vicinity of the hole.
