Read up on the types of pumps and their uses. What you are looking for is pressure to operate you sprinklers to throw a distance that you want. The throw of the sprinkler is proportional to the pressure of the pump. Pumps are rated by HP and flow rate but also they are rated by pressure. Do you know what is the rated pressure of your sprinkler to operate effectively? Normally a rotary head or impulse head needs 50-60 psi pressure to move water a certain distance away. Normally a portable cheap sprinkler is an impulse head. Be more specific with you brand and type of sprinkler. Oh, by the way, transfer pumps move volumes of water with out very much pressure. Thank you! Yes it is a cheap Lowe's sprinkler that is about 12 inches long that goes from one side to the other. I will research the psi. So a transfer pump is not what I need it sounds like. I am going to Northern today and don't want to buy the wrong thing. I tried to research the pumps but am afraid I am new to this and am going to lose my garden if I don't react fast. Talk to a irrigation or plumbing supply store. They are more knowledgeable about pumps you would need. You need a electric centrifugal submersible pump like the ones that are found in large water fountains and can push water at 40 -60 psi. JMHO Aloha
