Booster pump confusion for in-ground irrigation

I need to boost the city supplied water source for my inground sprinkler system and have been reading a plethora of varying information about booster pumps. Given the multitude of different types and features I'm still confused as to what the best type is. I would prefer to purchase from a local supplier (Home Depot, Menards, or irrigation supply) in case I need to return it or have problems. I see several types at the hardware store listed as "deep well", "jet pump", "irrigation pump". "Irrigtation Pumps" I've seen in the stores, seem to be more for pulling water from a standing water source or well. Aside from HP and PSI considerations, can someone help me with the following:

1. Is self-priming required? I noticed somehwere else on this forum that a person said it didn't have to be.

2. It seems that "booster pump" is just a generic term for several other specific pumps like "jet pump", etc. Is this true?

3. In summary, What features do I need to have on an appropriate "booster pump"?
