How long do those drip system last???

| We have our landscape done about 4 years ago...but this year, I have been noticing a lot of bushes are dying. And then my gardener suggested to us to replace all of our drip system...! So, my DH wonders just how long do the drip system last...I mean the piece that drip the water out? Do we need to replace them after certain lenght of time?

E-2 type emitters (the lil flag looking type) are popular around here.
They have a peice that is removable so that you can clean them out. I heard the laser tubing with pre-installed emitters rarely clogs, but i can't speak from experience there. dp |

| Thanks dp! I know nothing about those drips...just like to add more flowers to the garden...lol Oh mine, taking each of those little piece out to clean sounds like a lot of work! I think I am gonna check on the laser tubing that you talk about , hopefully that can work better! Thanks again,

| Any drip system for shrubs and/or trees must be expanded through the years so that it covers the additional root zone which has developed. In other words, let's say you started with two drippers per bush. The following year you may need three. In addition, the drippers may now need to be placed farther from the trunk. And/or perhaps one can change the dripper output. Let's say you started with 1 gpm drippers; you might replace some/all with 2 gpm. Beyond that, all drip systems need periodic inspections to ensure that all drippers are functioning. |

You live in CA so your water is probably highly alkaline. The laser cut tubing will clog in 1 season. The pipe with emitters every 6 or 12 inches might make it a few years.
I too thought I could just install my drip system and forget it. It must have the emitters checked once a year to be sure you have no clogs.
You can do all of that yourself. I totally designed and installed my drip and I'm 50+.
The guys at the drip equipment place will help you.

| 20 years, with good design, installation, and maintenance. If your system is not working correctly, what and where is the problem? Is it merely a clogged filter? (You do have a filter and clean it regularly, right?) Have you flushed out fine sediment from the ends of the larger drip hose? Some fine sediment passes through the filter and collects at hose ends. Is the plumbing fine and the electrical control system has some problem? Something else? Ask why "it all needs replacing." |

| I don't even use emmitors any more, the only thing I buy and use in installing my systems are Shrubblers by Dial-a-Flow.Iv'e found them to be the most reliable and they have an adjustable head that can be easily unscrewed and cleaned if neccesary.Also the flo is adjustible so you don't have to add to the system as the plants or trees grow,you just turn them up or down.When used with a good quality filter,You can't go wrong with thease . |
