Irrigation systems will either have automatic drain back valves which drain each zone after it shuts off, or the will have a schrader valve (a car tire valve stem) on the system some where to hook up an air compressor to blow out the system. If you do have freezing temps I recommend blowing out the system even if it has automatic drain backs. If you have a backflow preventer, in your area I am most sure you will, it is above ground and if not blown out or protected it will freeze. If all else fails, call an Irrigation company to service it. It will be cheaper than paying to have it fixed in the spring.
