I don't think you will have much problem, especially if it is buried, even under leaves and mulch. The black plastic is pretty resilient. I have a drip line I laid out to establish some small trees about 6 years ago. Part of it runs underneath a road, maybe 5 inches deep, and it has had no problem.

I would try to minimize laying the line in high traffic areas, but other than that it shouldn't be a problem.

You can lay the main line (1/2") toward the back of the bed and run some 'T' extensions toward the front (like the letter F), and you can avoid cutting through the main line. You REALLY don't want to cut through it. Neither do you want a spagetti of small tubes. I got a 100pc package of 'goof plugs' and plug holes in the mainline when I move/add plants to help keep it neat. I 'recycle' the fittings after cleaning them in warm soapy water, but trash the tubing and drippers. I found a local irriation supply place that has a much better supply of what I need and are more economical than what I get at Home Depot. As a parting note, I found that the 1/4" tubing at Home Depot was difficult for me to work with because it was so hard - I had to use pliers to help with insertion - I found some vinyl tubing that was much easier to work with at the irrigation store. THe 1/2" tubing will carry 220 gallons per hour, but I ran separate main lines for shrubs and perennials/annuals. Good Luck.
