Filter for irrigation system

Hello, we are going to be installing an irrigation system in the spring, but I've got a friend who is going to do the plumbing (cut into the mainline, and adding the backflow) this fall. We are on a community well (our development has a non-profit water company) that is not filtered, is high on iron, and brown in color when not filtered. Our drinking water goes through a filter and water softener, but I'd rather avoid using that as our source. Should we use the same type of water filter we use for our drinking water as we would for the irrigation system? My concern is that we risk the sprinkler heads and valve getting ruined very quickly. Will the filter screens meet the demand? Thank you for your thoughts. Don
