Best Irrigation Control Box?

Hello,

I normally hang out in the Roses forums, but have a question that's best posted here I think. I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a high-quality control box for my irrigation system.

I need a box with a clock that allows me to set an automated irrigation program that can handle at least 6 stations and 2-3 programming modes. We have several microclimates in our gardens and use a variety of irrigation methods (drip, different types of sprinklers). We also use different water quantities and frequencies for the various stations.

I discovered this morning that the control box for my irrigation system is not working properly. It gave us close to 30 years(!!) of good service, so I suppose it's time to put it out to pasture.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations or experience you can share.

Cheers,
Deca

Hi Decagon,

What is the brand you were using? Is price very important to you?
Aloha

My old one is a Richdel Model R416PR. My father installed it for me 30 yrs ago and it's been very reliable. It's straight forward, with 6 stations and 3 programming modes. I need more stations in the new one though.

Price is not too important, as long as I'm getting what I pay for. I'm looking for a good price/quality/reliability/longevity combination.

decagon,

Google commercial irrigation controllers and see what you like that meets your needs. When you make some selections, I believe people here can make their recommendations and comments on your choices including myself. Aloha

We use "Irritrol total control" irrigation boxes. Aside from reliability, they are, in my mind one of the more user friendly boxes. They come in 6,9,12,15 and 18 zone configurations, indoor or outdoor models. . Three separate programs, and up to 16 start times per program. We use them on 90% of our jobs and have had minimal problems.
