Thanks I did post to Hunter and received a reply, see below, which may help others:

"Bringing the sensor in for the winter is going to be your preference. Our sensors are tested in cold climates, however protecting it from the harsh winter climate may prove to extend the life expectancy of the sensor.

The sensor itself should also remain in communication sync with its receiver throughout the winter and throughout separation from the control unit. No re-addressing should be necessary upon Spring Start Up.

You are correct in stating this is very similar to the surge protection question. There really is no right answer with either, lightning can harm a controller regardless of the level of surge protection and below zero temps with extensive freezing can also harm a sensor. "

I mounted our sensor on the eavestrough of our family room which is only 1 story high. As the sensor is only 15' high, I plan on bringing it indoors for the winter. The last sensor was mounted on the roof; and after a couple of winters it was unreliable. I want this sensor to last the full 10 year life span so I'll protect it from the harsh Canadian winters.
