You get approximately 0.5 psi for every foot of elevation difference between the water surface and where you apply the water. If you applied your water at the base of your water tower and assuming your barrel is 4 ft high and half full, your pressure would be 4.5 psi. You would have a 9 ft difference. As the water drains out your pressure would decrease to 3.5 psi when the water is at the bottom of the barrel and 0 psi when your water mainlines empties completely. You can irrigate any place that is not higher than your surface water level in the barrel. With low pressure you increase the wetted surface area of your delivery system(bigger ditch or larger pipe diameter). The formula is Q=VA. Velocity(V) increases with pressure or slope. To get good flow(Q) you need to increase the area of your pipe (A). Hope this helps and its JMHO. Aloha

Curious as to the advantage over a pump?? I use portable pumps as my main water resevoir is underground.
Much cheaper to build and maintain. gary
