why 50 cfm for blowing out system?

all the advice I see on the net is to use 20 CFM or mor for blowing out an irrigation system. Why do you need so much flow?

A 3/4" poly line that is 200 ft long has a volume of less than 1 CF. A 5 CFM system should flush the line 5 times a minute.

Is the higher CFM required just to reduce the time it takes to blow out the system? Or is there that much air flow lost over 200 ft?

Even if it is slower, can't you just let it run for a while?
