HAVE: helleborus foetidus for sase

Before I got around to sowing the seeds I saved, I discovered gazillions of volunteers coming up in one of my gardens. No need for me to plant more.

The seeds I have sown have taken 2 years to germinate. They then take 3 years until their first blooms. They must go through two cycles of cold moist followed by warm moist to germinate. The parent plants have red leaf brackets and the plants look fabulous all winter long. The babies of these plants that I have do have the same red on the stems. I'd be happy to send pictures if you would like to see the parent plants. I winter sowed seeds in nursery type black pots and basically ignored them for 2 years except to make sure that they did not dry out and were buried in leaf piles over the coldest parts of winter. I had plenty of sprouts the second spring.

I'm offering packets of 30 seeds each to the first 10 people to respond by posting here. After I send you my address, I'll wait a week for a self addressed stamped envelope to arrive before reoffering the seeds. My experience has been that almost 50% of people who ask for seeds do not follow through with the sase, thus the time limit so I can give the seeds to someone else who will follow through.

I'll ignore anyone who does not post here. I really do not need any seeds in exchange, therefore I no longer keep a trade list. If you have something unique you think may be tempting as a trade, it's okay to offer as long as you're not offended if I say no thank you. I am partial to dark purple perennials and woodland plants, but have over a hundred types of seeds to get into containers already.

Put two 39 cent stamps on the envelope with your address and I'll wrap the seeds in bubble wrap and pay any difference in postage.

I would love to have some of your helleborus seeds.
I now have one plant blooming and three babies from two years ago so I am pleased to have a chance to start these seeds on their way to being plants.
Congrats on the excellent self seeding in your garden. Hope to see some of that here someday too but I've got a way to go.

I am taking a chance here, do you have any packets left? But first do you know if they are hardy to zone 4. If not, then we won't bother!

mitch1987, lindalana, rocky44; I've sent you emails with my address a month ago but have not received a SASE. Girlgardnerer, you've never given me a way to contact you. No big deal; life happens, BUT that does mean that there are 4 packets of seeds left if someone else wants them.

Post here and make sure that you have an email on your member page so I can contact you.

RE: HAVE: helleborus foetidus for sase

I counted twice and it looks like I might be able to get in on this!!!! Please, say I am number 10! I have always admired the foliage on this plant, but never knew what it was, except not a hellebore like any I had.

Thanks,
Lime
