RE: WANTED: Trees and Shrubs Wishlist- add yours

Oh, what a good idea!
Number one on my list has to be hazelnut, I really want to have them growing here! After that, could be anything.., shrubs, I would love to have a big "snowball"-type hydrangea or viburnum. Do blueberries count? Anything edible.
I love any kind of tree, so I can't pin that down, but I'd really like to try Japanese maples. The list goes on forever!
If I have seeds on someone else's wishlist, should I post here, or email them? And is it okay if they are seeds that I received from someone else in trade? Sorry, I don't remember how this works, and I would love to share!

RIght now the only tree I am looking for is Dwarf Red Buckeye and the only shrub I need is a native flame azalea. I found seeds for the other two shrubs I wanted by searching the members exchange page

Most people do get more seeds trading than they can use at one time and many people do trade extra seeds that they have received. If you have extra seeds that you aren't going to use why not trade them for something you can use.

tnmomsix and mallowmallow - I have Mountain Laurel. I understand this is very difficult to grow from seed, but if you're interested I'd be happy to send them to you. They're freshly collected last week.

SingingCrk - I have fresh Japanese Maple.

If anyone is looking for Tulip Tree I have them by the bucketfull right now, with more still to fall.

I'm not really looking for trees or shrubs right now, but had some of my wishes filled on the last wish list post. It was great.

Please contact me if you're interested and we can set up a trade.

Hazelnut would be awesome! I am looking for any hardy to zone 6 tree, bearing edible fruit or nuts. Now THAT'S a challenge...lol....

 o
RE: WANTED: Trees and Shrubs Wishlist- add yours

Yay, someone is sending me a few hazelnuts! I think I'm going to try some of those you get at the grocery, too. No luck last year, but other people have done it!
MrsGalihad, I have been drying some elderberries that were left on the bush/tree since you started this thread. They were tiny little shriveled up things when I found them, so I didn't try to separate them, and I don't know how many seeds are in a berry. I only have 25-30 of them, but if no disaster befalls them (like kids or dogs!), I can send them to you. I also have five seeds of "white fringe tree" from a round robin trade that I'd be glad to share (don't know if it is American fringe tree or not). I think I have some other things on your wants list, too.
Gardenmadness, how about wild plum, hickory, or black walnut? If you need any, let me know!
Jocpinct, I am going to email you! :o) Thanks!

I would like Japanese maple, burning bush, camelia, and smoke bush. I have seeds for Rose of Sharon (althea shrub) that has white and pale pink blossoms; deep burgundy crape myrtle, and another crape myrtle that I think has white blossoms, but I'm not sure. I have a pink crape myrtle that I haven't plucked seeds from, but if anyone is interested in that, I'll gather some.

RE: WANTED: spoke too soon -- Trees and Shrubs Wishlist- add you

As soon as I posted that I have pink crape myrtle, I went out to gather seed only to discover the pods have already opened and spilled them. Sorry. I should have checked that before posting. I do have the others I mentioned, if anyone wants some.

WOW!
This is great! I have been over at the "seed exchange" on GW, and my biggest desire was for tree seeds. Not many people had them--although, after lots of trading--I did get a few. I have some tree seeds to trade; please let me know how many.
TREES (I harvested them)
Mimosa Albizia julibrissin (pink)
Catalpa speciosa
Large Maple tree ready (Believe it is Sugar Maple)
Spruce Picea pungens glauca (very few)
Horse Chesnut Aesculus Hippocastanum (White)SPECIFY from 2-5 seeds (seeds are large--like a golfball)

I also have lots of rose of sharon, some of them from doubles. It would be a mix.

Trees that interest me: (FUNctional ones with berries, fruit, or nuts--or something for the birds!)
Thank you!

Allspice (can I grow that in zone 7?)
Hazelnut
actinidia kolomicta
Podocarpus gracilior
Chionanthus virginicus--Fringe Tree
Kalmia latifolia--Mountain Laurel
Aesculus pavia-dwarf red buckeye
Liriodendron tulipifera tulip tree
Symphoricarpos albus snowberry
Nerium oleander
Viburnum carlesii
ANY of the Pine Nut Trees: Pinus koraiensis, Arucaria arucana, Pinus armandii, Pinus jeffreyi, Pinus peuce, Pinus edulis, Pinus cembra var. siberica, Pinus siberica, Pinus siberica f. humistrata, Pinus siberica f. coronans, Pinus siberica f. turfosa, Pinus lambertiana, Pinus cembra, Pinus pumlia.

RE: WANTED: Trees and Shrubs Wishlist- add yours

Good post! I'm badly in need of some shrubs for windbreaks along the garden fence, but I want them to do double duty and provide food for me or at least the chickens. It has been kind of tough, most things either want to grow into trees or colonize into thickets (though I have a few places for such plants here and there...) Let me know if you've got any seeds that might fit that bill.

Right now I'd also be interested in seeds of:
Autumn Olive (Autumnberry)
Saskatoon Serviceberry
Aronia
American Hazelnut
Spicebush

I have to trade:
Elderberry (dried berries)
Redbud
Catalpa

And I could probably go out and gather black walnut, pignut hickory and burr oak if anyone is interested. I can also save some unknown but very tasty variety of pear. I know seeds won't grow true but you could get lucky, and wildlife isn't picky - deer, rabbits and birds all love pears!
