I wouldn't. I'd use potting mix, not garden soil. Karen

Ditto what Karen said - use potting MIX, not garden soil. The seeds won't do as well in garden soil--it's too heavy/dense. Potting mix is specially formulated to be lighter and more suitable for containers. Last year was my first to winter sow. My neighbor brought me a truck load of milk jugs every week. He laughed at all my WS milk jugs but decided to try it himself using his own garden soil. He used milk jugs same as me. He set the WS jugs out in the open same as me. He got zero germination. I got 85%-95% (or better) germination using professional growers mix. After seeing all my sprouts the first time, this year he asked ME to WS his seeds.

sorry i did not mean top soil i did mean potting mix i tend to call things everything but what it is...my question was about the peat mixed in with it....would that be okay?
|
Yup, that's good. The peat helps hold the moisture.
