Do you cut the tops off the white milk jugs and cover with plastic? I am having the same problem. No transparent milk jugs around here. Thanks in advance for the info.

I'm not sure what you mean by white jugs? Do you mean solid white, or just not transparent like a soda bottle?

I've used milk jugs, I guess you could say they are opaque white. They worked fine.

They are a solid white, I can only see an outline of my finger when I have it pressed against the plastic. The year before I stopped wsing, all milk started coming in these. I saved my old milk containers for 1 year and stopped wsing because my gardens were full at my old house, so I got rid of the semi transparent milk jugs.

When I searched it, I came up with a few people that used them. I'm not wsing a lot this year, so I'm gonna give it a try, I hope it works since my go to for containers was 1g milkjugs, I personally think they are perfect for ws.

Wow, your milk jugs are way more solid white than the ones around me then. Sounds more like the solid white cottage cheese and sour cream comes in around here. What a bummer :(

I use some milk jugs, but they don't stand up too well beyond one season- maybe because they are made of the semi-transparent plastic. I've started using 20 pound Tidy Cats litter jugs- those are semi-transparent too, but way sturdier than milk jugs.

Other suggestions I would offer for milk jug replacements would be gallon ice cream buckets, large cake containers from the store that have those nice high clear domes, or the big plastic tubs that organic greens come in from the produce department.

Disneynut, We have the opaque ones here too. They work fine, but I try to plant the shade loving stuff in them and save the clear ones or other containers for the sun lovers. They worked fine for the sunlovers though anyway. You shouldn't have any problems if you put them out in full sun like I do.

Thanks for reassurance. I know there are other options out there, but I prefer the milkjugs. I do like vinegar and kitty litter ones, but they are a lot tougher to cut through and I have been able to get 2 full seasons out of the milkjugs before recycling them. Since I don't plan to ws a lot this winter, I should have enough to finish all my perennials by feb. Than I will collect for my annuals. It helps since we drink milk like it's water.
