I am in zone 7b - New Mexico. I've sowed most of my perennials and have things sprouting already. I thought I had read in a post that ornamental grasses are a little more sensitive to the cold and it might be good to wait a little while to sow them - but that could be my old lady brain playing tricks on me. Right now daytime temps are in the 40's and 50's and nights in the 20's but it's certainly possible that we could still get a cold snap. The grasses in question are the Elijah blue fescue, annual hares tail grass and little hobbit bearskin fescue.

Since no one has answered, I'll give you my two cents worth. You could start them now, probably when no bad consequences, as many here would tell you. I do believe ornamental grasses need higher temps to germinate. Unless the temps get above 55 degrees or more, nothing will happen. So why not wait until better temps are out there? Just my opinion.

It seems like I read a recent post where it was stated that grass seed tends to rot if WS too early. I have WS some of my seed in mid January and am waiting until at least late February to do the rest.
