WS container question

What kind of containers do you all use? Do you have favorites? Pros and cons of different types? I read the conversation about egg cartons which made me wonder if anything I'm using will end up being problematic.

Any insights from you experienced WSers would be greatly appreciated!

Keep in mind this is also my first year winter sowing so hopefully I will learn more about what works best and what I like;
Clear little plastic cups with sandwich bags rubber-banded over top
Juice bottles done exactly like the milk jugs
Ziplock containers w lids
Everything was found around the house
All three are different sizes, we will see what happens...

Milk and Water Jugs.

2 liter pop bottles.

Milk jugs and 2 liters here, too.

Whatever you use, shoot for at least 3" soil depth plus headroom for seedlings.

Milk and water jugs mostly, under-the-bed storage containers for things I sow a lot of - peas, corn, etc. I also use pop bottles when I can get them, and the big plastic ice cream containers.

Mostly have the milk jugs. My recycling center is less than a mile away so they get hundreds per week and let me help myself. :) i do have a few 2 liter bottles and big plastic ice cream buckets.

RE: WS container question

Over 7+ years I have used many different containers for winter sowing from gal. milk jugs, 2Ls, baggies, cups, flats, large pots, etc. I like to put annuals in cups or 4" pots and place them in large plastic containers like barbe uses. As long as the potting mix is deep enough to keep from drying out quickly and the seeds & mix can be contained most anything works if given attention.

I like gal. jugs cause they are easiest to move around. 2Ls last longer than milk jugs which disintegrate after two years for me. Also it is easy to see inside 2Ls and to remove & replace tops. It is easy to remove seedlings from cups. All have their pros and cons. Give them a try and see what works best for you.
