Confused....

I was reading on Wintersown.org and I gathered that wintersown seeds can be started at any point in the winter. And now that January is coming to a close, I am wondering if I need to "get on the stick" and get everything else I have to sow done. The list I am sowing is as long as my arm....

So before I go to nuts I wanted to ask, can I get everything done now??

Well ask yourself this do they reseed in your area?? If they do then the answer would be simply, YES!!

RE: Confused....

I am a total noob, how would I know when things reseed?

What is reseed?

Maybe this can help you!

Here is a link that might be useful: wintersow data

RE: Confused....

:) When I say reseed that simply means that when a flower or plant will drop seed that it produced, then that following year it has babies from the seed it dropped.

Or definition I just googled up "to grow a plant from seed dropped by the previous generation,....".

I am horrible at explaining things so I hope that made sense if not, maybe we can cross our fingers and hope that someone a little more articulate can come along!! Though I am sure that the crossing of the fingers is not needed, lol!!

Ezzirah, if you've got lots to do (and are risking burn out or time budgeting), start with the things that require the chill before they will germinate. Those will be among your perennials, trees, shrubs if you are sowing any of those. You can look them up on a germination database if you don't know, Clothiers is one thats very good. If you get stuck with some specific seeds/plants, post and someone will be able to tell you.

After those are prepped and outside, you can do the things that are WS for convenience and not because they need it - those things that will germinate without the chill. No rush there, winter isn't over until March 20th and there are a few tender annuals that can even go out later than that.

Here is a link that might be useful: Clothiers database, just about as complete as they come in one place

RE: Confused....

Ok, that makes much more sense. Thank you everyone!

 o
thanks!

I was reading the wintersown.org database and for the "month germ" they have "Y". I am guessing that means "yes it did germinate" ??

That maybe a dumb question, but I want to make absolutely sure before I start sowing.

NO, not risking burn out in the least!!! I am excited to try this!

RE: Confused....

Yes, the "Y" means yes it germinated.

Most things will work well. Members of the forum have used the method for trees, shrubs, flowers, veggies, herbs... Some will work better than others, but they're all fun to try. Have fun.
